Reflection on Project 5 Build a Technology Day

As I reflect back on group project5 Build a Technology Day. I felt the group worked well together, we stuck to the task at hand, and there were a lot of insightful ideas for our project. We used SKYPE to collaborate which made it very comfortable and convenient. We could meet at a specific time in virtual space which could accommodate everyone and not use any gas or extra travel time. :)

I enjoyed the theme that was chosen. It was hard for me to settle in on a particular science lesson because there are so many great ideas out there. And since I am not science savvy I had to spend time researching the standards and see how lessons would relate to them. That was frustrating for me because I couldn’t get it a lot of the time. The science standards are somewhat vague or lacking in indictors for 5th grade. I found one unit of study that I felt used technology to the fullest and would have been a perfect fit for this project but I didn’t know how our grade level would comprehend the tasks. I’m including the link here because I really think it is GREAT and if I taught science I would find a way to use it even if it had to be taught by the teacher and not break into groups. The site is called Journey North Mystery Class which is a study of sunlight and the seasons. It is an eleven week study/hunt to find ten secret mystery classes around the globe by using sunrise and sunset times. Please check it out.
http://www.learner.org/jnorth/mclass I spent hours researching it. I am still obsessed with it. I just started reading blogs and public libraries that are posting its information as I’m writing this.

I enjoyed this project because it made me use other subject standards that I am unfamiliar with at this time. And searching for ideas in another subject area expanded my knowledge and gave me practice to develop skills to collaborate with teachers in subjects I’m not real familiar. I now have a favorite folder with space websites. Sandy
